Junk In Her Trunk

Our cabinet painting process

Junk In Her Trunk paints a typical Jacksonville kitchen in 4 to 5 days, starting on a Monday, with every surface sprayed rather than brushed. The process has been refined over more than 2,000 kitchens since 2014, and it's built for the best look, feel and durability.

What happens during the project?

Junk In Her Trunk paints your doors and drawer fronts at our Jacksonville warehouse and your cabinet frames in your kitchen, so most of the mess never comes into your home.

  1. Doors and drawers come off. We remove your doors and drawer fronts and take them to our warehouse.
  2. Prep at the warehouse. Every door and drawer front is sanded with a light grit and treated with a liquid deglosser so the surface will accept paint, then coated with a bonding primer that adheres to everything from wood to plastic to glass.
  3. Paint at the warehouse. Two to three coats of low-VOC acrylic enamel are sprayed with an HVLP (high volume, low pressure) sprayer for an even finish with no brush marks or lines.
  4. Frames in your kitchen. We come back to prep the kitchen, covering appliances and masking off the cabinets, and spray the frames in place.
  5. Reinstall. When the doors are finished we bring them back and reinstall them.

Do you spray the doors and the frames?

Yes, Junk In Her Trunk sprays both: doors and drawer fronts at our Jacksonville warehouse, and frames in place in your kitchen. Spraying with an HVLP sprayer leaves an even finish with no brush marks or lines.

What paint do you use?

Junk In Her Trunk uses a low-VOC waterborne acrylic enamel with its finish built in. Think of the enamel as a hybrid between an oil base and a latex: the strength and longevity of oil, with the cleanup of latex.

Why don't you use a 2K polyurethane or a clear topcoat?

A clear polyurethane topcoat over painted cabinets can yellow over time. Our enamel has the finish built in, so the color stays as vibrant as the day it was done.

How soon can I use my kitchen, and how do I care for the finish?

Your cabinets are dry and ready to use as soon as Junk In Her Trunk finishes, and the paint fully cures in roughly 10 days. Open and close doors and drawers gently during those first 10 days. To clean them, use a soft cloth and diluted Dawn dish soap; don't use Magic Erasers or abrasive cleaners.

What is your warranty?

Junk In Her Trunk will come back and fix any issue with your paint job at no charge for one year after the job. After the first year we still come out for touch-ups for a nominal hourly charge, though most clients never need to call us.
