Timeline

How long does it take to paint kitchen cabinets?

Junk In Her Trunk finishes a typical kitchen in 4 to 5 days, starting on a Monday. We take the doors and drawer fronts to our Jacksonville warehouse for prep and painting, prep your kitchen and spray the frames in place, then bring the doors back and reinstall them.

How soon can you start?

Junk In Her Trunk is usually booked about 2 to 3 months out, and every cabinet job starts on a Monday. When a client cancels, we fill the opening from the wait list, so you may be able to start sooner.

When can I use my cabinets again?

Your cabinets are dry and ready to use as soon as Junk In Her Trunk finishes, but the paint takes roughly 10 days to fully cure. Open and close doors and drawers gently during those first 10 days.

Process and products

Do you spray or brush the cabinets?

Junk In Her Trunk sprays every cabinet with an HVLP (high volume, low pressure) sprayer for an even finish with no brush marks or lines. Doors and drawer fronts are sprayed at our Jacksonville warehouse, and frames are sprayed in place in your kitchen.

What paint do you use?

Junk In Her Trunk uses a low-VOC waterborne acrylic enamel over a bonding primer, applied in two to three coats. The enamel has its finish built in, so there is no separate clear topcoat.

Why don't you use a 2K polyurethane or a clear topcoat?

A clear polyurethane topcoat over painted cabinets can yellow over time. Our enamel has the finish built in, so the color stays as vibrant as the day it was done.

Do you paint bathroom vanities and furniture?

Yes, Junk In Her Trunk paints bathroom vanities with the same durable finish used on kitchens, and refinishes dressers, tables, hutches and heirloom pieces. Furniture is where the company started.

Warranty and care

Do you offer a warranty?

Yes, Junk In Her Trunk will come back and fix any issue with your paint job at no charge for one year after the job. After the first year we still come out for touch-ups for a nominal hourly charge, though most clients never need to call us.

How do I clean painted cabinets?

Clean cabinets painted by Junk In Her Trunk with a soft cloth and diluted Dawn dish soap. Don't use Magic Erasers or abrasive cleaners on them.
